 6. LIVE

I have always said, that to create a great home you need to start with a great canvas, then add your artistic talents. It's a huge job to start a home from the beginning and get it right, whether your talents are in the garden, with furniture or just making your place a home. So what does it take to create the true essence of a “great home” or resort?

A great floor plan, an architect, or a variety of materials is just the beginning -  or is it?

Personality or Attitude

The very first thing any great house has to have is personality whether it be natural, minimalist, arty or just homely.

Your home  should exude originality, confidence, attention to detail and depth of understanding of form and materials.

While personality is often left to buying new clothes or a car, your home should reflect who you are or the stage of life you are in.

Presence - Grounded

A great home needs to be grounded, fit in with the environment and look like it belongs. Proportion,  (almost  forgotten  for pretentiousness) is everything. Overpowering houses that are too big or too high for their width are sadly becoming  the standard houses of today.

Balancing your home with the natural terrain and embedding your home in a nook or allowing you cantilevers to float are simple steps to making your new module yours.

The efficiency of our plans reduces the homes footprint, and provides more living space for the dollar.

Timelessness

A great home can't be 'try hard' or made to look like something it's not. It takes a passionate designer / builder combination to not only get the ingredients such as materials, fixtures and fittings right but to obtain the right look, taste and respect that pleases you in subtle ways.

Following the ancient Japanese philosophy - Wabi connotes a rustic simplicity, freshness or quietness and the understated elegance is applied to both natural and man-made objects. It can also refer to quirks and anomalies which add uniqueness and elegance.
Sabi is beauty or serenity that comes with age, and the concept that changes due to use, makes an object more beautiful or valuable.

Simplicity & Quality

Great homes rely upon innovative but simple planning, a limited materials palette and high commitment to craftsmanship and quality.
The key is its simplicity and sophistication with a design focus on indoor outdoor transparency. Simple techniques such as maintaining a single material from the inside out, allows the feeling of letting the outside in.
Great homes not only open aesthetically, but open to and enjoy the elements, like the warmth of the sun in winter, the breezes in summer and shelter from the rain during the wet.

A Chapter of your life

A truly great home is the background memory to your current journey. Whether it be your first home, raising a family, retiring, a remote fishing shack or tourism retreat, must provide a memorable experiences.

Protect your Investment

Your home is usually your biggest investment and a great home should protect your investment from over capitalising, provide good capital growth, be energy efficient and not cost the earth to run or maintain.

Your investment needs to act as a secure family home and be able to grow / extend as does your family. As life becomes more transient, our homes need to keep up and if ever the case, move with you or be feasibly modified for the next investor.

Freedom / Reward

There's nothing more rewarding than being involved in the installation of your own home. A great home should have a 'soul', provide a story and have a connection to it's owner.

The style, features and landscape will make a statement about the owners values.  In a subtle way, a great house whispers a story and underscores the owners personality and taste. Walking through any truly great home, you will learn a lot about its owners and their priorities and of course portrays a signature of its original creator.

Protect Our Environment

The environmentally-friendly choice.
Worried about the planet your children and grandchildren will inherit? Us too. A great home, generates minimal waste, reduces the disturbance to your site’s natural resources keeping costs down and helps save our planet.

Plus, it should conserve energy, be low in embodied energy and have the ability to provide energy, that saves you on your utility bills year after year.

Healthy Green

A truly great home must be healthy, non-toxic and a place to rest and rejuvenate. Preferably made from raw, low engineered materials, free from life-cycle emissions from the extraction,
installation and disposal of these materials.
